With it being Thanksgiving today, this will be a little different than my usual Under 2 newsletter.
First, I want to share my sincere gratitude for all of you who open these emails and read.
Each week, I do my best to synthesize different viewpoints and strategies that will help you and your family be and feel financially successful. I hope that the messages do help.
And if they do, please forward your favorite emails to your friends and family so they can subscribe as well.
Second, let's talk about books.
I have found that the best way to have something to say is to constantly be reading and pondering what others have to say, particularly through the lens of history.
Here are some favorite titles I've read this year that helped me do just that:
Roses & Radicals: The Epic Story of How American Women Won the Right to Vote by Susan Zimet and Todd Hasak-Lowy (this one will change you)
Frostbite: How Refrigeration Changed Our Food, Our Planet, and Ourselves by Nicola Twilley (sounds weird, but so interesting!)
Ruth Bader Ginsburg: A Life by Jane Sherron de Hart (fascinating and important U.S. legal history here)
Naming Nature: The Clash Between Instinct and Science by Carol Kaesuk Yoon (nerdy but awesome; great gift for nature lovers or scientists on your list)
Victoria The Queen: an Intimate Biography of the Woman Who Ruled an Empire by Julia Baird (beautifully written and fascinating)
Leadership: In Turbulent Times by Doris Kearns Goodwin (great author to read if you want to enjoy some incredible history... also read her book No Ordinary Time: Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt: The Home Front in World War II)
Courage Is Calling: Fortune Favors the Brave by Ryan Holiday (& all his other books)
Plus, here are a few favorite titles I've read previously that have direct applications to your money life:
The Four Tendencies: The Indispensable Personality Profiles That Reveal How to Make Your Life Better by Gretchen Rubin
The Psychology of Money: Timeless lessons on wealth, greed, and happiness by Morgan Housel
Atomic Habits: An Easy & Proven Way to Build Good Habits & Break Bad Ones by James Clear
Taking the advice of one of my favorite authors, Ryan Holiday, take advantage of time spent with friends or family this holiday to ask this question around the kitchen island or dinner table:
What’s a book that changed your life?
Then go read it!
